Edison stepped on a piece of glass that cut through his shoe and lacerated his second toe on June 16, 2023.
He presented to the Emergency Department at St. Vincent’s Medical Center where a Physician Assistant ordered an x-ray and then examined him.
The Physician Assistant failed to detect that glass remained in Edison’s foot, and failed to diagnose a then-existing tendon laceration ; likely because he did not ask Edison to try to move his foot through the full range of motion. The Physician Assistant sutured Edison’s laceration and asked him to follow-up in ten (10) days for suture removal.
Edison returned in ten (10) days as asked; at which time his tendon laceration was diagnosed. In the months that followed, it was discovered by a Podiatrist not only that Edison’s tendon had lacerated, but that glass had been left in his foot. Surgery was required to remove retained glass shards.
Edison is now taking legal action to recover for his pain and suffering, economic harm he has suffered, and the permanent function he has lost as a result of the PA’s negligence.
